76ers get second win of the season, beat Suns 111-104

web_full_942230050867The Philadelphia 76ers are a hungry team.  They came into Phoenix looking for a win and they got it.

I’m going to do this recap a little differently.  There are a lot of negative things that could be said about the Suns in this game.  If you want to read about that stuff, head over the the Suns’ subreddit.  I’m only going to talk about one negative aspect of the game for Phoenix.  Eric Bledsoe suffered an apparent knee injury.  The severity of the injury has not been determined and he is set to undergo an MRI.

There were a surprising amount of positives that came from this game for Phoenix and I would much rather talk about them than the negative aspects.

The Sixers played like they were in game seven of the finals tonight.  They showed great effort and got the win.  Isaiah Canaan had a game high 22 points along with four rebounds and three assists.  Former Sun and new 76er, Ish Smith had a strong game as well finishing with 14 points, two rebounds, and five assists.  Carl Landry added 16 point and eight boards and former Michigan star, Nick Stauskas got hot and had 17 points on 7-10 shooting including 3-4 shooting from behind the arc.

Philadelphia was without their star rookie, Jahlil Okafor due to knee soreness.  Nerlens Noel stepped in and added 14 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

I must say, I was disheartened by the Suns’ loss to the Nuggets back on December 23, but in tonight’s game Phoenix fought all game and showed much better effort than in the game against Denver.  The Suns are in a transitional period right now and that is something that fans have to accept.  There will be some bad losses.  There is so much potential on this team.  Being apart of tough seasons makes the good seasons to come that much sweeter.

Which Suns Shone the Brightest?

1. Devin Booker – Booker had an outstanding game.  He provided a great spark off the bench and I believe he was the reason that the game was not a blowout.  He only played 19 minutes, but he made the most of them by scoring 19 points.  He hit some big threes that got the team excited.  It’s nice to have a guy like him who can come in and provide that spark when the opposing team goes on a run.

2. Brandon Knight – Knight had the primary ball handling duties since Bledsoe went down with the injury.  He looked comfortable in this role for the most part.  He had 21 points, three rebounds, and seven assists.  We will see more of Knight as the main point guard if Bledsoe misses any time.

3. Tyson Chandler – Chandler is starting to look much better after his hamstring injury.  He had one of his signature double-doubles tonight with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  He was able to get up for alley-oops tonight and he had a big put back dunk that got the team excited.  I expect Chandler to be even more of a factor as he continues to get healthier.

Next up, the Suns will host the Cleveland Cavilers on Monday, December 28 at 7:00 pm MST.
