Pelicans Shock Cavaliers In Overtime, Win 114-108
Man, what a game! During the 4th quarter I had Game 3 flashbacks when the Pelicans gave up that 20 point lead to Golden State in the 4th quarter and lost it in overtime. This time the Pels had the game under control, up 13 with 7 minutes left. However, LeBron tried his hardest to sneak the game from us. He dropped 23 points in the 4th to take the lead 105-102 with 15 seconds left. Every Pelicans fan at that moment went through the same emotions, “Man, how did we let them come back?” “We’re going to lose another close one.” and “Once again we can’t finish games.” That’s before Jrue Holiday nailed the most important shot of the season, sinking a beautiful three-pointer with 8 seconds left which led us into overtime. After that, we had way too much momentum and emotion to lose. The Pels secured the victory 114-108 in a much needed win.
Bench points was the big factor for this game, as we outscored the Cavs 41-22. Leading the bench scoring was Ryan Anderson who seemed to be a thorn in the Cavaliers side all night, scoring 18 points and 5 rebounds. Jrue Holiday also had a good game going 13/7/5 shooting 50% from the field. The player of the game has to be Anthony Davis who is continuing a stretch of great games, he managed a double-double with 31 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pelicans (5-15) still have a long road ahead of them if they want to have any chance of making a run for the playoffs. But games like this really give the organization hope that we can pull it off. If we play at the level we did tonight and get fully healthy, there is no telling what we can accomplish this year even with the horrible start. So sit back and relax because there is no need to throw in the towel yet, your Pelicans just might be alright after all.
