Houston takes care of business in Phoenix
Houston bounces back from a 3 game losing streak with a blowout victory over a horrible Phoenix team.
There isn’t much to take away from this game. Houston got good games from Howard and Harden. Ariza and Beverly also both shot over 50% from the field and combined for 43 points. But as a team they were shooting in the low 40% range for a large chunk of the game because of the bench misfiring from the field.
The defense is probably the one noteworthy thing to take away from the game. Josh Smith started at PF, moving away from the small ball starting line-ups of the past few weeks. And the result was Houston holding Phoenix to 37% shooting and forcing 21 TOs. Granted, Phoenix isn’t really a good offensive team at all, that’s still good defense.
The key stretch in the game was almost certainly the last stretch of the 2nd quarter. Houston was struggling to score early in the 2nd, and Phoenix got out to a 33-29 lead with 8 minutes left in the 1st half. Houston put on the clamps for the rest of the quarter. And eventually when the starters got back in the game, they pulled the lead to double digits by halftime and it never got closer for the rest of the game.
