4 in a row, Rockets beat Grizzlies
Houston gets a big win against the Grizzlies, moving to a game over .500 for the first time in over a month. Also bringing the season series between the Rockets and Grizzlies to 1-2. With the Grizzlies still a half game ahead of Houston in the standings, this could potentially matter when it comes to tie breakers for the playoffs.
A key to the Rockets victory was a stretch in the 4th quarter where they really locked it down defensively. They went into the 4th quarter up 3 points, and the Grizzlies managed to tie the game at 83 with 7 minutes left (this was right around the time Howard checked in). Houston for the next 4 minutes went on a 14-2 run, and effectively put the game out of reach from there on out.
Houston started off the game with 4 turnovers in their first 5 possessions, and finished the first with 8 (finished the game with 17), but they were able to stay in the game due to the stellar job they did on the offensive boards. For the entire game, they grabbed 18 offensive boards, which matched the number of defensive rebounds that the Grizzlies had. Basically, any time the Rockets shot the ball, they were able to recover the rebound 50% of the time.
Houston also shot 18 for 35 from the 3 point line. The 18 made 3s is a new season high for Houston, as well as it is for Memphis giving up made 3s.
Harden led all scorers with 25. Terrance Jones had 20 off the bench. Howard had 17 on 6-10 shooting after putting up aweful games against the Grizzlies in twice November.
