Rockets with the “double comeback” to defeat the Pacers in OT
It was an 88-76 game with 6:42 left before Houston went on a 17-5 run, ending with a game tying 3 pointer from Trevor Ariza to send the game into over time at 93-93. Then after Houston went down 6 early with 3 minutes left in OT , staged a 14-4 run to eek out the win 107-103. That’s a double comeback guys. Houston turned the ball over 23 times, leading to a lot of points in transition for the Pacers. But for those two important stretches of the game, Houston was able to keep control of the ball, force them to score in half court and held them to 9 points over those combined 10 minutes to end both the 4th quarter and overtime.
Defensively the Pacers played James Harden about as well as you can play him. He had 21 points on 20 shots and went to the line only 4 times. Took 9 of his 20 shots of his shots from behind the 3 point line. But when he was able to drive inside, he was very efficient. Fortunately Howard, Beverly and Ariza were able to step up and make the Pacers pay for paying too much attention to Howard.
Howard had 21 on 9-15 shooting and also added 17 rebounds giving him his 5th straight double double. Beverly added 16 points, and was able to hit 4-8 from 3. Ariza had a season high and team high 24 points, and was 5-9 from 3. All of this while guarding Paul George.
A big win at home against a good team. Houston should expect to win more games like these if it wants to climb back into the Western Conference playoff picture. They will have plenty of chances to prove themselves the last half of the season.
