Suns swept by Jazz in season series

The Phoenix Suns were blown away in the second quarter by the Utah Jazz, falling by a final score of 101-86.  The Jazz used a huge 24-2 run against the Suns that lasted a large chunk of the quarter to put Phoenix away.  The Suns struggled with turnovers all game, racking up 21 on the night.  Utah, on the other hand, took excellent care of the ball and didn’t let mistakes get in their way.  This ends the season series against the Jazz, seeing Utah take all four games from the Suns.  The very impressive Jazz defense gave Phoenix troubles all year, never scoring more than 89 points against them.

Brandon Knight missed his second straight game after re-aggravating a sports hernia.  The Suns haven’t announced that they are shutting down Knight for the rest of the season, but it seems like the next logical step.  Jon Leuer also missed the game with a right ankle sprain.  Mirza Teletovic supplied most of the minutes off the bench for the Suns tonight, with the rest of the bench logging only 24 minutes as a whole.

Tyson Chandler had a big night for the Suns, scoring 21 points on 10-12 shooting from the floor.  Chandler also cleaned the glass all game, grabbing 18 big rebounds.  Chandler’s production couldn’t quite make up for the other half of the Twin Towers, as Alex Len struggled mightily tonight.  Len was 0-8 from the floor, scoring his three points from the free throw line.  He only managed to grab six rebounds and ended up with a +/- score of -21 on the night.  Teletovic was the high scorer of the night, putting up 24 points while grabbing six rebounds.  He is only 3 three-pointers away from setting the NBA record for most three-pointers off the bench.

The Jazz were led by a balanced scoring attack between Gordon Hayward, Rodney Hood, and Derrick Favors.  Hayward led all Jazz scorers with 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Hood started off slowly, going 0-6 in the first quarter, but ended the game with 18 points and seven assists.  Favors was quiet on the glass tonight, but showed some impressive offensive skills, scoring 17 points on 8-11 shooting.

The Suns have the day off before heading to Atlanta to take on the Hawks Tuesday afternoon.  Tip-off is set for 5:00 MST.
